Road improvements to the Eastern Bridge Link Road in June: What you need to know

Some important road improvements will happen locally this month. Here's what this means for people who live in the area.

Between 15 June and 19 June, Homes England's contractor Sisk will undertake surfacing work to Holmbush Avenue, which forms an important connection through and around the Brookleigh development.

There will be no vehicular access during the times of the works, however, pedestrian access will be maintained. Please see below for more information.

Why are these improvements happening?

This work will complete the final surface for the road, which provides access to Brookleigh, supports the new bus service which launched last month, and connects with other roads and walking and cycling links. Together this aims to significantly improve the look and feel of this area.

When and where are these improvements happening?

The work will mostly happen across four evenings to minimise disruption. Some daytime work will take place on 15 June, with access to Holmbush Avenue restricted between 7.30am and 5pm.

15 June, 7.30am – 5pm: Contractors will prepare raised tables at the Isaacs Avenue junction with Holmbush Avenue and near the traffic signal junction. They will also mark out the carriageway and lay the first section of new road surface from Isaacs Avenue junction onto Holmbush Avenue. This junction will close, with access to Holmbush Avenue restricted and Isaacs Avenue blocked off until the road reopens at 5pm.

Buses will be diverted along Maple Drive, which will be the nearest location for boarding and alighting, as buses will not serve Brookleigh during the closure. Buses will follow the normal route and timetable before and after the closure on 15 June.

Please note that at the times listed below, traffic management lane closures will feature on Isaacs Lane, with access restricted to Holmbush Avenue, Eastbridge Avenue and Isaacs Avenue.

Night works (all 7pm to 5.30am)

16 June: Contractors will prepare raised table and side-road entrance areas, mark out the carriageway, lay a new road surface from Isaacs Avenue junction onto Holmbush Avenue up to Eastbridge Avenue and reopen the road at 5.30am.

17 June: Contractors will prepare and resurface the left-hand lane between Eastbridge Avenue and the Holmbush Avenue traffic lights, before reopening the road at 5.30am.

18 June: Contractors will prepare and resurface the right-hand lane between Eastbridge Avenue and the Holmbush Avenue traffic lights.

19 June: Contractors will finish the surfacing work at the side road junctions and allow the surface to cool before reopening the completed road.

We appreciate residents' understanding during these improvements. Please be reassured that our teams will do everything possible to minimise noise and disruption during this period.

What do residents need to do?

As explained above, the area is inaccessible to vehicles whilst the works are taking place. Residents will not be able to park anywhere along Holmbush Avenue from 9 June until after the work completes on 20 June to allow teams to prepare the area for the work to start on time. The contractor will ensure access for emergency services remains unaffected during this period.
